Investing in Our Teachers: Why a Well-Appreciated Team Makes All the Difference

A group of women sit around a long wooden table at a restaurant, smiling toward the camera. The table is decorated with a red-and-black plaid runner, small holiday-themed centerpieces, and drinks, creating a festive, cozy atmosphere.

On Friday, May 8, Child's World Woodland Hills will close at noon so that our entire staff can sit down together for a special catered lunch. It is a small gesture in the grand scheme of things. But we believe gestures like this matter, and we want to share why.

The connection between teacher wellbeing and child outcomes

Decades of research in early childhood education have established a clear link: when teachers feel valued, supported, and appreciated, they teach better. They are more patient. More creative. More emotionally available for the children in their care. The quality of the relationship between a teacher and a young child is one of the strongest predictors of that child's development during the early years, and that relationship is healthiest when the teacher is genuinely well.

Appreciation is not a luxury for teaching teams. It is part of what makes good teaching possible.

What our team gives every day

Our teachers and staff at Child's World Woodland Hills arrive every morning ready to meet each child exactly where they are. They manage the full range of a young child's emotional life, celebrate every milestone, navigate the hard moments with patience and skill, and build the kind of trusting relationships that let children thrive. They do this for every child, every day, across every age group from infancy through Kindergarten.

That is extraordinary work, and it deserves to be recognized

What you can do

If Staff Appreciation Week has you thinking about the people who care for your child, let them know directly. A handwritten note, a few words at drop-off, or simply making eye contact and saying "thank you, I see what you do" is more powerful than you might realize.

As you plan your May 8 pickup for noon, we hope you'll take a moment to feel good about the team your child spends their days with. They are the heart of Child's World Woodland Hills, and they are so deserving of a celebration.
