Dads, Popsicles, and the Power of Showing Up: Why Pickup Time Moments Matter

A smiling adult and young child sit together at a bright blue metal picnic table outdoors, enjoying snacks and drinks. The child holds a cupcake while colorful markers and a coloring sheet are spread on the table between them. Plates with fruit and cupcakes, cups of lemonade, and water bottles are visible, creating a cheerful family gathering atmosphere against a beige wall backdrop.

On Thursday, June 18, Child's World Encino is celebrating Father's Day with Popsicles with Pop from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at pickup time. Families are invited to stop by, share a popsicle, and do a fun craft with their child. If dad can't make it, any special grown-up is completely welcome.

These pickup events are easy to underestimate. They're short. They're casual. There's a popsicle involved.

But for a young child, the experience of having a parent or grandparent step into their world, sit down at their table, make something with their hands together, is genuinely meaningful. Early childhood research is consistent on this: parental involvement at school strengthens the home-school connection that supports learning, belonging, and emotional development.

At Child's World Encino, family partnerships are one of our core values. Events like Popsicles with Pop are not filler. They are part of how we build a community where children feel fully held, by the people at school and the people at home.

So come for the popsicle. Stay for the craft. Let your child show you their space, introduce you to their teacher, and feel the uncomplicated joy of having you there.

Happy Father's Day from everyone at Child's World Encino. We'll see you Thursday.
